Sandra Sylvester '64

Sandra earned an M.A. in Corporate and Political Communication with a professional certificate in writing at Fairfield University in Connecticut.  She retired from the printing and publishing business a couple of years ago and her novel, The South End, was recently published.

James Chiaravalloti '65

James retired in 2004 after 35 years with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, Florida.  He still plays the guitar and sings and would love to hear from 1964 and 1965 classmates.

Eva Jane (Plourde) Gallant '67

Eva Jane is retired and lives in Saco, Maine.  She was in education for 17 years, owned her own business for a brief period, worked in banking for 12 years, and retired from insurance sales last April.  Eva is married and has two sons, one stepson, and seven grandchildren.

Richard M. Schlenker '68

Richard works as a science curriculum coordinator in Seoul, Korea.  He is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and would like to hear from folks from the classes of 1966-1970.

1978

Karen L. Robinson '78

Karen recently expanded her business and opened an office in Tampa, Florida.  Both of  her sites (Clearwater and Tampa http://LivingLifeForce.tripod.com) offer Swedish, spa, neuromuscular, and activated isolated stretching techniques.  Karen was married to to Richard A. Salisbury of Westbrook, Maine, on June 25, 2009. She will relocate to Maine's coastal area in the spring of 2010 and is looking forward to attending the annual Mac Sennett Lobster Feed in August!

Lucy Ann Baker '79

For the past 12 years, Lucy has spent summer vacations in Stavanger, Norway, and has also traveled to Cyprus, Turkey, Denmark, and Amsterdam.  She has a home in Bulacan, Philippines, that she visits every other year.  Lucy has been a 5th grade teacher at Beatrice Rafferty School on the Passamaquoddy Reservation in Perry since 1980.  She loves the Native American children she teaches and has learned much from them.  Lucy has been at the school so long that she has taught many of her students' parents.  She appreciates her unique situation and feels she is home with her people.

Stephen Treat '85

Stephen Treat has been named Controller of International Paper's Ticonderoga Paper Mill located in the Adirondack region of upstate New York.  His responsibilities include accounting, budgeting, purchasing, and mill security.  He and his wife, Jackie, recently relocated from Memphis, Tennessee, to Queensbury New York.

1987

Kenneth W. Fredette '87

Governor Baldacci recently recommended Kenneth for a position on the Maine Human Rights Commission.  The recommendation was unanimously approved by the legislature's Judiciary Committee and is awaiting confirmation by the Maine Senate.  The Maine Human Rights Commission is the state agency charged with the responsibility of enforcing Maine's anti-discrimination laws.  Kenneth is a lawyer in private practice with offices in Newport.  He also serves a a major in the judge advocate general section of the Maine Air National Guard.

Paul W. Vienneau '88

After graduating from UMM, Paul taught junior high school in Eastport, Maine for a several years.  In 1991 he took a full time position with the U.S. Immigration Service and was stationed in Montreal for over 10 years.  He is now an officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, stationed in Bangor, Maine.  In 1991 he married the former Virginie Jangot of Paris, France, who was his pen-pal for many years.  They have two sons, Ryan 16, and Ethan 13.  The family resides in Milford, Maine.

Justin Kristan '90

Justin is Transportation Planner for the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments and lives in Fargo, ND.  He was married in June, 2007, to a Fargo native.  The couple honeymooned in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Donnette Hill Walto '92

Donnette is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher and a writer living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  She is an active member of the International Community School (ICS) where whe teaches both adult and childrens' yoga.  Donnette's husband Dennis Walto is the Regional Director of Save the Children US, covering the continent of Africa.  Their daughters, Lalibela and Sahara, attend ICS and the family has lived overseas on and off since 1992.

Eric and Tammy Carlson (both alums) recently moved from Orlando to Clermont, Florida.  Eric works at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate as the golf and corporate sales manager and Tammy is an office manager for a commercial landscape company, TruScape, in Winter Garden.

Tim Heavrin '94

Tim is working in Arizona as a Department of Corrections officer, a job which he's had for thirteen years.  Tim keeps fit through healthy living, logging miles on his bike and hiking.  Tim has been married to the love of his life for sixteen years and sends his warmest regards to all of his UMM family.

Paul Sylvain '94

Paul has been an adjudications officer for the Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services in Boston since July 2001.  In March of 2009 he was promoted to Senior Immigration Services Officer and now serves as a course developer/instructor at the USCIS Academy Training Center in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.  His wife, Nola, and his two cats, Mindy and Phoebe, now make their home with Paul in Euless, Texas.

Keith recently took a job as an Environmental Conservation Police Officer for the State of Connecticut where he is attending the Police Academy. He and wife, Kendra Williams '94, relocated from Cape Cod to Connecticut in the fall of 2008.

Christopher Beal '96

Christopher is married with four children and works as a firefighter/emt for the Barnstable Fire Department on Cape Cod.  He is also works with FEMA as Resue Specialist with the Urban Search and Rescue Massachusetts Task Force 1.

Kim Kupperman '97

Kim Dana Kupperman is the recipient of the 2009 Katharine Nason Bakeless Prize in Nonfiction, awarded by Middlebury College's Bread Loaf Program.  Sue Halpern was the judge.  The book, tentatively title I Just Lately Started Buying Wings, will be published by Graywolf Press in 2010.

Kimberly Wescott '97

Kimberly graduated Kimberly Wescott-Huttman and now goes by Wescott. She moved to Texas, received her master's in education, and is working for the family firm while earning her doctorate in education.

Jim Kroon '00

Jim Kroon and Lori Brown '00 were married in 2004.  Lori has been working at Delaware State University since 2002 as a fisheries research technician.  Jim has been working at the Delaware Department of Agriculture since 2003 as the survey coordinator for a USDA exotic pest program.  He was also accepted into the Master of Geographic Information Systems Program at Penn State University, an online program he attends while working in Delaware.

Reid Albee '01

Reid has been working at Burgess Computer in Bath, Maine, for the past year as a remote systems engineer and recently received his Microsoft Certified Professional certification..  His son Jacob is a sales associate at U.S. Cellular in Bangor.  Reid is proud to announce that his daughter, Jessica Lynn Albee, graduated from Humboldt State in Arcata, Calif. on May 15th, with a B.A. in Fine Arts.  Jessica graduated with high honors and an overall GPA of 3.98.

Michael Colucci '01

Mike lives in Topsham and works as a supervisor of a team of credit analysts.  He recently wrote and self-published a novel, "Bad Little Fall", that is loosely based on his time at UMM as an RA.  His book is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Borders.com.

Jason is teaching U.S. and World History at Essex Agricultural and Technical High School in Hathorne, MA.  He lives in Salem, MA, and spends time enjoying local history, attending the theater in Boston, and working for his synagogue.

Kenrick Liburd '05

Kenrick Liburd, a native of London, England, who graduated from UMM with a degree in business,  recently accepted a position at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee, coaching women's basketball and women's volleyball for the Crusaders.  He will also teach business classes.  The move to Tennessee Temple reunites Kenrick with his former University of Maine at Machias basketball coach Randy Lee, who in the spring of 2009 became the men's basketball coach for the Crusaders.

Stephanie (Curcione) Miller '05

Stephanie and Kenny Miller, class of '06, were married in 2009.  They now have a two month old son.

Ashley married in June 2009.  She is currently attending the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received her MS in Animal Science in December 2008.  She is now working towards a Ph.D. in Animal Science.

Howard Gray '06

Howard completed his Master's in Exercise Physiology at East Tennessee State University last year and now works as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for Crystal Palace Footbal Club (soccer) in London.  He is planning to visit Machias in May or June of 2010 and would love to get in touch with old friends.

Brice Hellstrom '06 and Julie (Strauss) Hellstrom '06

Brice Hellstrom and Julie Strauss, both graduates of the Class of 2006, got married on December 31, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Several UMM alumni attended the wedding.  The couple now resides in Manchester, Connecticut.

Katie Hartwig '07

Katie Hartwig is currently employed in the scholarship internship program for the Environmental Science Department Sea Turtle Research Project at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.  Katie graduated from UMM with a major in Marine Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies.

Caitlin Heller '08

Caitlin recently moved to Pulaski, Tennessee, an hour from Nashville.  She is a third grade teacher and her boyfriend is an admissions counselor at Martin Methodist College.  Caitlin thinks of UMM and Maine often and hopes to visit soon!
