Educating Maine Students to Rebuild Maine's Economy

meghan duff

The jobs that were the backbone of the Maine economy for over a hundred years have largely disappeared. And across the country Americans are experiencing the most trying economic times in decades. But there are some bright spots in this picture. One of those is a renewed faith in the value of education.

The evolving job opportunities of the 21st century will require a college degree - the new knowledge and skills that a UMaine-Machias education makes affordable for hundreds of students each year. Our Environmental Liberal Arts curriculum prepares students to strengthen the Maine economy, enhance the state's quality of life, and sustain the natural resources that define the Maine environment.

UMaine-Machias programs in Behavioral Science, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), Environmental Recreation and Tourism Management, Marine Biology, and many more prepare students for careers in Maine where there is a demand for qualified employees. Your gift to the UMaine-Machias Annual Fund can make that opportunity a reality for a Maine student.
