My graduate training is in Clinical Psychology. Prior to teaching at UMM I was a Child & Family Mental Health Clinician and Adolescent Addictions Treatment Provider. One of my areas of interest is how culture, identity, and context impact counseling and mental health treatment.
When I was an undergraduate I double majored in Biological Anthropology and Russian Language & Linguistics, studied abroad in Voronezh, Russia, and worked in Oban, Scotland on a student-worker exchange. One of the best parts of here at UMM is getting to know our students and helping them find opportunities to pursue their interests, whether that includes studying abroad, preparing for graduate school, or finding the right internship.
I also have a longstanding interest in service and community engagement as a former NH/VT Schweitzer Fellow. Our Behavioral Sciences & Community Studies (BEH/CMY) program has several service-learning projects throughout the curriculum to help students actively utilize course content and skills while collaborating with community partners to address a local or regional needs.
Here at UMM I teach social sciences courses that support UMM's Liberal Arts core requirements, BEH/CMY program requirements and electives, as well as courses in our Counseling Minor and the courses that are required for the Maine Mental Health and Rehabilitation Technician (MHRT/C) Certificate. I am also an academic advisor for BEH/CMY students and the faculty advisor to the Green Council - UMM student environmental and sustainability advocacy group.
