UMM Holds Dedication Ceremony for Crandlemire Support Building
MACHIAS, Maine – More than 75 people gathered for the dedication of the Crandlemire Support Building at the University of Maine at Machias on Friday, May 17. The maintenance and support facility was renamed in memory of Donald Crandlemire, UMM's first director of physical plant.

95 Graduates Receive Degrees at UMM's 102nd Commencement
MACHIAS, Maine – A total of 95 graduates received degrees at the 102nd Commencement of the University of Maine at Machias, held Saturday, May 18, at the Frederic A. Reynolds Center. UMM President Dr. Cynthia Huggins presided over the ceremony at which three students were presented Associate of Science degrees, and 84 received Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of College Studies degrees. Seven students participating in the UMM ceremony received their Associate of Science in Nursing from the University of Maine at Augusta, and one student received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maine.

UMM Announces Award Recipients to be Honored at Commencement on May 18
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will award degrees to more than 80 students at its 102nd commencement, Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at the Frederic A. Reynolds Center. The University will also honor several distinguished guests during the ceremony.

"Celebrate UMM" to Highlight Student Research and Service
MACHIAS, Maine – On Thursday, May 9, the University of Maine at Machias will present “Celebrate UMM,” the annual exposition showcasing student research and service projects. The event will run from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the second floor of Torrey Hall. All members of the campus and surrounding communities are invited to help the University celebrate the students’ accomplishments.

Retired Journalist Jim Thompson to Speak at UMM Commencement
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has announced that Jim Thompson, a retired journalist and communications professional, will deliver the keynote address at UMM’s 102nd commencement ceremony, to be held Saturday, May 18. During the ceremony, Thompson will be presented with UMM’s Distinguished Service Award.

Giant Map of Europe Coming to Machias on May 1
MACHIAS, Maine – Local youth and community members will have the opportunity to discover the rich natural resources, mountain chains, rivers, and oceans of the European continent when a larger-than-life map of Europe rolls into Machias on May 1.

UMM to Become a Tobacco-Free Campus on June 1
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will join a growing list of more than 300 U.S. colleges and universities when it becomes a tobacco-free campus in June. UMM President Cynthia Huggins announced the new policy on Earth Day.

MACHIAS, Maine – Local actor/director Scott Sortman, a 2004 graduate of the University of Maine at Machias, will bring Austin Pendleton’s play Uncle Bob to UMM on April 26 and 27.

Sixth Annual Rainbow Ball Alternative Prom to be Held April 19-21
MACHIAS, Maine – More than 100 youth and their supporters are expected to attend the 6th Annual Rainbow Ball Weekend, held April 19–21 at the University of Maine at Machias. The weekend of events will include educational workshops, a highlighter party, a talent show hosted by drag queens, an admissions campus preview, and the Rainbow Ball prom.
